Check your car before driving! Common faults and solutions for oxygen sensor!
The oxygen sensor is a key feedback sensor in the electronic fuel injection engine control system, and is a key part to control automobile exhaust emissions, reduce automobile pollution and improve the quality of automobile engine fuel combustion.
The failure of the oxygen sensor and its connection line will not only cause excessive emissions, but also worsen engine operating conditions, causing the problems such as idling stalls, inaccurate engine operation and power drops. Let’s take a look at the common failures of oxygen sensors today!

Ⅰ Common faults of oxygen sensor
Oxygen sensor poisoning
Oxygen sensor poisoning is a fault that often occurs and is difficult to prevent, especially for cars that often use leaded gasoline. Even a new oxygen sensor can only work for a few thousand kilometers.
If it is only a slight lead poisoning, using a box of unleaded gasoline can eliminate the lead on the surface of the oxygen sensor and restore it to normal operation. But due to the excessively high exhaust temperature, lead will the inside of the oxygen sensor, which hinders the diffusion of oxygen ions and makes the oxygen sensor ineffective, which could only be replaced at this time.
In addition, silicon poisoning of oxygen sensors is also common. Generally speaking, the silicon dioxide generated by the combustion of silicon compounds contained in gasoline and lubricating oil and the organic silicon gas emitted from improper use of silicone rubber gaskets will cause the oxygen sensor to fail. Therefore, it is necessary to use high quality fuel and lubricating oil. .
Carbon deposition
Due to poor engine combustion, carbon deposits are formed on the surface of the oxygen sensor, or deposits such as oil or dust inside the oxygen sensor will hinder or block the outside air from entering the oxygen sensor, making the signal output by the oxygen sensor inaccurate and the ECU cannot correct the air-fuel ratio accordingly in time. Carbon deposition is mainly manifested in the increase in fuel consumption and a significant increase in emission concentration. At this time, if the sediment is removed, it will be resumed.
Oxygen sensor ceramic chipped
The ceramic of the oxygen sensor is hard and fragile, and hitting with a hard object or blowing with a strong air current may cause it to break and become invalid. Therefore, be especially careful when handling, and replace it in time if there is a problem.
Heater resistance wire blown
For the heating type oxygen sensor, if the heater resistance wire is ablated, it is difficult to make the sensor reach the normal working temperature and lose its function.
The internal circuit of the oxygen sensor is disconnected
This problem is caused by the poor connection of the wiring harness and the terminal. The fault may also be caused by other system interference and mechanical or chemical damage. Sometimes the line can be broken or dropped due to maintenance or other reasons.
Ⅱ How to prolong the life of oxygen sensor
Check the working status of the oxygen sensor every 30,000 km
If there is aging or failure, please clean or replace the oxygen sensor in time. Because the three-way catalytic device and the performance of the engine will be damaged due to the malfunction of the oxygen sensor, don't hesitate and make it worse. Do not let the oxygen sensor collide with hard objects. Because the oxygen sensor has sensitive elements like ceramics, if it drops on the ground or collides with other hard objects, such violent vibrations and impacts may damage the ceramic elements or heating elements in the sensor.
Avoid pulling the sensor wires
Excessive pulling of the sensor wire may lead to unreliable connection of the sensor, thereby affecting the operation of the oxygen sensor.
Do not flush exhaust pipe after flaming out
When the engine has just turned off, be sure not to flush the exhaust pipe immediately. Because the exhaust pipe is rapidly cooled from the outside, it will cause the ceramic elements of the oxygen sensor to explode, resulting in damage to the oxygen sensor.
