What makes the brake pads wear inconsistent left and right? Let me tell you! -- BMTSR lesson
Automobile brake pads, refer to the friction material fixed on the brake drum or brake disc that rotates with the wheel. The friction lining and friction pads bear external pressure and generate friction to make the car slow down.
When the car is braking, the left and right brake pads work at the same time. Theoretically, the degree of wear of the brake pads on both sides should be the same, but in daily life, we will find that the degree of wear of the left and right brake pads is inconsistent. What is going on?
How it works?
Take disc brakes as an example. The brake pads of each wheel consist of two inner and outer brake pads. The sides of the two brake pads have a force-bearing surface, which is the contact surface of the friction brake disc.
The brake pads are connected by two telescopic rods. When the brake pedal is stepped on, the brake pads hold the brake disc. When the brake pedal is released, the two brake pads move to both sides along the telescopic rod and leave the brake disc.
Reasons for inconsistent wear of left and right brake pads
The material of the brake pads is different. The degree of wear of the brake pads is mainly directly related to the material of the brake discs and brake pads.
Braking when turning makes the left and right wheels unbalanced, resulting in inconsistent wear of the left and right brake pads;
The single-sided brake disc may be deformed and worn out;
The return of the brake cylinder is inconsistent, for example, one side of the bolt rod is rusty or one side of the cylinder return bolt is dirty;
There is a big difference in the length of the left and right brake hoses, and the oil pressure filling is delayed;
The telescopic rod is sealed by a rubber sealing sleeve, but if water enters or lacks lubrication, the rod cannot expand and contract freely, and the outer plate after the brake cannot leave the brake disc, and the brake pad will be additionally worn;
The braking time of the left and right brakes is inconsistent. If some air enters into the brake hose on one side, the air will be compressed to reduce the braking time of the side tires.
How to solve?
In general, the inconsistent wear of the left and right brakes is caused by insufficient unilateral braking or unilateral drag.
If the two brake pads of the same wheel wear unevenly, check whether the brake pad materials are the same, whether the brake cylinder is in good return, and whether the cylinder bracket is deformed.
If there is uneven wear between the left and right wheels, check whether the braking time of the brakes on the left and right sides of the coaxial is the same, whether the suspension and the suspension body floor are deformed, and whether the elasticity of the suspension coil spring is reduced.
How to choose good quality brake pads?
First, coefficient of friction
The braking force of the brake pads is basically determined by the friction coefficient of the brake pads, and this relationship directly affects the braking effect of the car.
If the friction coefficient is too small, the brake will be weak, and the braking distance will be too long to achieve a good braking effect; if the friction coefficient is too large, it will cause problems such as wheel lock and direction loss.
Second, high temperature resistance
When the brake pads are working, in addition to generating a strong braking force, it is also accompanied by high temperature generated by friction. Inferior brake pads will decrease the friction coefficient at high temperatures, and even cause the brakes to collapse, which is very dangerous.
Third, fitness
When replacing new brake pads or driving a new car, there is a chance that brake jitter, abnormal noise, and peculiar smell will occur. There are two reasons for this phenomenon, one is the poor quality of the brake pads; the other is the poor fit and matching of the brake pads. The new brake pad cannot run in with the brake disc, or there is a gap between the brake pad and the brake caliper.
Forth, wear resistance
The wear resistance of the brake pads has a great relationship with the manufacturing material and technology of the brake pads. The better the wear resistance of the brake pad, the longer the service life.
