The differences of three types of shock absorbers
There are three types of shock absorbers, hydraulic, pneumatic and resistance shock absorber. Their composition principles are different, but they have one thing in common, that is, to achieve the effect of shock absorption for the car. It can eliminate the vibration of the axle and wheels caused by the road surface, and ensure that the wheels can grasp the ground at any time, thereby ensuring the steering and braking functions of the vehicle, and improving the safety of the vehicle.
How to test the shock absorber?
- Drive around 10 kilometers on a road with poor road conditions, stop and touch the shock absorber shell with your hands. If it is not hot enough, it means that there is no resistance inside the shock absorber and it does not work. At this time, you can add appropriate lubricating oil, and then carry out the test. If the shell heats up, it means that the shock absorber is short of oil, and enough oil should be added; otherwise, the shock absorber has failed.
- Press the bumper firmly and then release it. If the car jumps 2 or 3 times, it means the shock absorber works well.
- When the car is driving slowly and braking urgently, if the car shakes violently, it indicates that there is a problem with the shock absorber.
- Remove the shock absorber and stand it upright, and clamp the lower end connecting ring to the vise, and then forcefully pull the shock absorber rod several times. At this time, there should be stable resistance. The resistance of pulling upwards (restoring) should be greater than pressing downwards. If there is problem of unstable resistance or no resistance, it may be the lack of oil inside the shock absorber or the valve parts are damaged, at this time it should be repaired or replaced.
How often does the car shock absorber need to be replaced, if I know how to test it?
- Since the average annual distance of the car is 20,000 kilometers, and the shock absorber needs to be replaced in pairs, professionals indicate that the replacement frequency of the car shock absorber is about once every four years.
- But in fact, according to different vehicle conditions and different shock absorber manufacturers, the replacement frequency will be different, so it needs to be determined in accordance with the actual situation and cannot be sloppy.
If the shock absorber is damaged, will it increase fuel consumption if it is not replaced in time?
The answer is YES!
The shock absorber can buffer the movement of the height of the car's center of gravity to the greatest extent, save energy, and reduce the impact on the tires caused by the change of the car's center of gravity. So if the shock absorber is damaged, it will increase fuel consumption.
The impact of shock absorber damage on the car
- Oil leakage from shock absorber
When the vehicle is running, the damping effect will be greatly reduced until the hydraulic oil leaks out, and the car will have no damping. The unilateral damping oil leakage will make the body high and low, causing the fault of driving deviation.
- Aging and falling off of the strut mount
After the top rubber is aging and falling off, when the vehicle shakes up and down, the shock absorber will directly collide with other parts, making abnormal noises, and may damage other parts.
- Fatigue softening of shock absorber spring
The extension capacity of the spring decreases. When the car sinks, the damping spring cannot give the car a greater reaction force, and the sinking speed of the car will be faster than normal, and the effect of damping and buffering will be reduced. The shock absorber spring cannot sufficiently slow the body sinking, and the hydraulic pressure received by the shock absorber will increase, causing the shock absorber to leak oil.
It can be seen that the car shock absorber needs to be checked and replaced regularly. If it is not replaced until it is broken, it will not only bring a bad experience to the drivers and passengers, but also bring certain adverse effects to the car.
